Duck Rally is an online board game about how the Thai government threatens Thai activists, which are against human rights and democracy.
This game is about the land called ‘Duckland’ which is ruled under the military government and all ducks are forced to do hard work with small pay. One day one of the ducks stands up and tells everyone that this land belongs to all the ducks, not just the government…
I have finalized that I want to create a board-game that made people realize the suffer of people from this government those only care about their benefit and will do everything to prevent their benefits and power loss.
I came up with this. The origin idea is from “Snake Ladder” game but this game has no snake, no dice but cards. Players have to draw a movement card to see how many steps they can go, if they land on the black spot, they have to draw a penalty card to see how many steps they have to go back…
It is finally the time to design my own boardgame. I should finalist the game’s objectives, rules and visualization and consider to make it in digital version.
What’s situation today could be in the boardgames? The sense of hiding, cheating, bluffing, lying, bribing and how military controls Thailand with their power, io and peer pressure among them. Also setting mood and tones for my boardgame.
I went to Sheldon in Ekkamai to see those boardgames in physical to see all of their elements. Sadly I went alone so, I did not have a chance to experience those games. What I got from that day is that party bluffing is suit for my board-game type with negotiation and lying skill in order to win and understand the politics. What I like the most is Coup because it does not need much time to finish and you have to lie all the game through. Sadly I could not find coconut empire there which is the boardgame made by Thai people to reflect Thai politics.
From last week, I have found that there are boardgames such are Coconut empire, Coup, Secret Hitler and Bangkok big brothers those are about politics and people in the game have to talk, negotiate, lie, and bluff in order to win against other players. What I want to do is make a game that people side has 30% chance of winning in order to understand the suffer of people who against the government. What I need to figure out are the characters, the rules, the system and how do I reflect the reality.
This week, I decided that party-bluffing board-game will be my final medium with 3–6 people and finish within 20 minutes or more. I chose party-bluffing because I want people to talk, lie, and bluff each other in order to understand of how politics in Thailand works. For the next step, I needed to figure out of how my game works and how player interact with the game and finalize the concept of visualisation. In term of content, I need to decide if I want to put content that makes people concern about humanity? How to make it different from other boardgames?
